Where it makes perfect sense

• New builds and extensions — the floor is being laid anyway, so the pipes go in at the right stage.
• Homes with a heat pump — heat pumps work best at low flow temperatures, which is exactly how UFH runs.
• Open-plan kitchens and living areas — even heat across a big room, and no radiators taking up wall space.
• Bathrooms — a warm tiled floor is one of the nicest upgrades you can make.

Where to think twice

• Retrofitting into an existing solid floor means lifting it — often not worth it for a single room.
• Poorly insulated rooms: UFH is gentle, steady heat. Insulation first.
• Rooms you only heat occasionally: UFH is slower to warm up than a radiator.
